“The Quieter Side of Me”

Paintings and Photographs by Ross Bachelder

Rochester Public Library at 65 South Main Street in Rochester will host “The Quieter Side of Me”, an exhibit of paintings and photographs by artist Ross Bachelder of Berwick Maine, July 1st through August 30th during regular business hours.

Bachelder, who in addition to being an artist is a writer and musician, exhibits his unorthodox and playful drawings, paintings, found objects, assemblages and photographs in galleries in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.  He is a member of the Kittery Art Association and the Newburyport Art Association, where he is currently the coordinator of AAGNE (the Abstract Artists’ Group of New England, an interest group of AAA).  He is also the manager of the frame shop and Franklin Gallery at Ben Franklin Crafts in Rochester, New Hampshire and consulting Service for creative people of every kind.  He may be reached at artsmultiple@gmail.com and 207-216-2841.

“This exhibit represents a departure from my usual work”, says Bachelder, who over the past several years has focused increasingly on abstraction as an artist.  “I have become known more for my found object assemblages, abstract paintings and unusual drawings than for traditional subjects, but while my involvement in figurative work has been somewhat dormant, it continues to be strong as ever.  It’s nice to revisit this, the quieter side of me”.

Bachelder joined 21 other abstract artists for an exhibit entitled “The Joy of Abstraction,” put together by AAGNE – the Abstract Artists’ Group of New England – in June at the Newburyport Art Association on Water Street.  He was also in the “Rhythm and Blues” exhibit at the Kittery Art Association in June.  He’ll be in the orchestra for the Hackmatack Playhouse production of CAROUSEL this summer, and on August 20th he’ll perform a full recital of unaccompanied flute music at the Kittery Art Association, Kittery Point, Maine.
