Berwick Art Association Exhibit
  September 2014

The Rochester Public Library is pleased to present a small, definitive sampling of the artists involved in the Berwick Art Association.  BAA member, Daryl-Ann Hurst, is curating and hanging the show.  Hurst is a Rochester resident and friend of the Library and is the recipient of the Rochester Arts Commission Artist Achievement Award in the Visual Arts for 2014.  BAA artists exhibiting work at the Rochester Library this month are Ruth Beau, Gloria Houlne, Bob Farrell, Daryl-Ann Hurst, Steffanie Antonio, Beth Wittenberg, Laura Tuininga, Bill Moore, Chris Kfoury, Anne Vaughan, Jean Coughlin, Michael Bramlett, Justin Bloom, Jane Lissner, Kristen Dolloff, and Christy Bruna.

The group brings to the art scene some very refreshing perspectives of political art, beautifully articulated Impressionistic pieces, energetic abstractions and intricately rendered drawings.

The group, founded in the backyard of Erin Duquette, is barely a year old. Their focus has never been for a permanent space and structure, but for lots of temporary shows to increase exposure.   A well-received show at the Berwick Public Library is one of the BAAs successes, along with pop-ups at Dahlia and Washington Street Mill. The group has also worked with area galleries and had a juried group show in June at Dovers artstream entitled  Local Heroes.

The crowning achievement of the group, to date, is the Berwick Community Mural.  A portion of one of the walls of Prime Tanning has been turned into a work that the town of Berwick can be proud of thanks to the work of BAA  in not only getting donated supplies, but also the organization of the artists and townspeople to create this remarkable piece. The unveiling of the mural was on August 6th.

The Berwick Art Association Exhibit will be on display at the Rochester Public Library for the month of September and can be viewed during regular library hours.   The Rochester Public Library is located at 65 South Main Street.  Please call 332-1428 for more information.
