Carolyn Begley is a mixed media artist living in Tunbridge, VT. She holds a Bachelor of Art

(Fine Art) with distinction from RMIT Melbourne, Australia and an M.Ed (Waldorf/Steiner edu)

from Antioch University, Keene, NH. Carolyn’s art practice is inspired by her daily walks, and

observational drawings which include interior domestic scenes, drawing from memory,

landscape and her big unruly garden. Her work uses mixed media, including acrylic paint,

gouache, colored pencil and wax crayons. Much of her work is sold off the walls of her bakery

cafe, Umpleby’s in Hanover, NH which she owns with baker husband, Charles Umpleby and is

held in private homes here and abroad.

Daily Draw by Carolyn Begley

This exhibit came about through a drawing practice I began in 2024. As an artist, drawing has

always been fundamental to my work but I had found over time other aspects of life were

taking priority and my practice of drawing was getting pushed down towards the bottom of my

daily to do list. In 2024 I decided drawing would live on top of my priority list. Every morning

before starting the day, I make an observational drawing using colored pencils and 5” x 8”.

Most of the drawings occur from the same wingback chair looking out over the same space. In

this exhibit, A Daily Draw, I share examples of the drawings and other works on paper I have

made based on the drawings.
